The addition to an ambitious skyline
The Museum of the Future is a visionary cultural initiative in Dubai. Once completed, it will be a showpiece that will, as its name suggests, let the public explore the future of science and technologies.
Not content with claiming its role as a major incubator of the challenges facing future cities, the museum’s unique design, a gigantic eye adorned with Arabic calligraphy, has already made a grand entry onto Dubai’s skyline.
The need for ground monitoring to address down-to-earth matters
DBB was contracted to carry out foundation works for the pedestrian bridge that will link the Museum to the Emirates Tower Metro Station.
The piles for some of the piers were very close to two existing underground Tabreed chilled water lines. In accordance with Tabreed general requirements, in order to obtain its No-Objection Certificate, DBB subcontracted Sixense as a 3rd Party Consultant to undertake Vibration and Settlement Monitoring of the ground around the piling activities, and ultimately assess the risks and effects of such foundation works to the existing assets.
10 levelling points were installed around the location of each pile. Campaigns of precise levelling activities were then carried out, while ground vibration levels were also recorded in real-time.
A very quick mobilization on site, along with the precision of Sixense activities guaranteed the success of this operation.
