Business Improvement District
The London BID stretches between London Bridge and just past Tower Bridge in the north to beyond Guy’s Hospital and the King’s College London campus in the south. It comprises the prominent business estates of London Bridge City and the Shard Quarter, the 4th busiest rail station in the UK, City Hall and over 400 businesses.
The Place is a landmark headquarters at London Bridge Quarter adjacent to the Shard of Glass. London Bridge will be a vibrant commercial and social hub located at one of London’s most significant transport interchanges. The Place is situated just above and adjacent to one of London’s Major transport hubs, London Bridge Station.
The demolition and subsequent construction at London Bridge Place Project meant that significant monitoring was required.
Sensitive surrounding structures
Sixense were appointed to develop a monitoring scheme that would detect any impact on the London Underground and Network Rail infrastructure and other structures that fall within the zone of influence. A fully comprehensive automated monitoring system was installed to enable real-time monitoring, on a 24/7 basis.
London Underground’s Jubilee and Northern Lines required real-time monitoring to determine the deformation of the tunnels, changes in level and longitudinal alignment of the tunnels and track, vertical differential movement for the four escalators that link London Bridge Station Ticket Hall and the underground lines, all whilst still allowing normal operation of the railway network.
Due to the predicted settlement footprint, adjacent building were also included in the overall monitoring scheme. Alongside reports that were generated and forwarded to the client’s team, the client also had access to the real-time data via the web using Sixense’ Geoscope monitoring software.
