SIXENSE’s team of environmental engineers offer world class expertise in the field of acoustics and environmental monitoring.

Construction and development activities can disturb, and have a negative impact on, neighbouring communities. An efficient noise and vibration monitoring campaign can help contractors and developers avoid property damage, litigation, delays to the construction programme or increased costs related to these effects.

SIXENSE provide noise and vibration monitoring services to support consultants, engineers and contractors minimise the environmental impacts from construction activities. From project inception to completion, on projects of all sizes, we help our clients undertake construction activities whilst complying with the appropriate environmental regulations. These services include :

  • Section 61 consent and dispensations
  • Compliance with Environmental Statement/DCO
  • Mitigation optioneering, including design advice for enclosures
  • Compliant investigation
  • Local authority engagement

Noise & Vibration Monitoring

Environmental Monitoring

The purpose of monitoring emitted noise is to control the acoustic impact of a construction worksite relative to ambient noise levels, and to check the actual level of noise at nearby dwellings.

Noise monitoring can also be used to detect the presence of land and/or aquatic animals. This can be completed via the analysis of frequency levels and noise signature characteristics. Sixense have developed a unique acoustic machine learning software, NORA, which can automate this process. Acoustic monitoring can therefore be a useful tool for protecting wildlife during adjacent construction activities.

In urban communities, it is also essential to control dust levels and air quality. Air quality is rapidly becoming one of the most critical dangers to public health, with higher levels linked to lung disease and asthma. The sensors required to make these measurements can be installed alongside weather stations which are also utilised to assist with data analysis and presentation.

We provide stand-alone noise, vibration and dust monitoring services as well as offering the added value of integrating our specialist consultancy services; making full use of the available environmental data to keep your project on track.

We develop solutions that optimise construction productivity, minimise financial impact and enhance community perception by :

  • Understanding project environmental risks and obligations
  • Providing advice on mitigation and monitoring options
  • Ensuring environmental compliance through monitoring and assessment
  • Communicating project performance effectively to stakeholders and neighbours

Specialist monitoring and consultancy services have been developed to overcome noise, vibration, air-quality and dust challenges on :

  • Infrastructure and construction projects
  • Existing transportation networks
  • Heritage structures and monuments
  • Residential and commercial properties
